New techniques in imaging and visualization are illuminating the structure, physiology and evolution of muscles in fascinating ways. This session will explore new technologies applied to different scales of musculoskeletal organization. We will navigate 3D sarcomere structure, energetics, and physiology, test for patterns in jaw muscle behavior during feeding in primates, and finally explore patterns of 3D jaw muscle architecture and forces across lineages of reptiles.
