Imagine an artist, a physician, an anatomist and an engineer standing around a patient. One can show you what a heart looks like, another what it does, the third where it is, and the fourth how we can make a new one. On their own, any single expert is limited, but together, the options are limitless. In essence this is the value of transdisciplinary collaboration -- bringing together experts across various fields to merge real-world clinical scenarios with educational activities to shape the learning experience. In this symposium participants will explore several contexts of transdisciplinary learning as related to health professions education. After an overview, the panel will dive into how anatomists, clinicians, engineers and artists may collaborate to help trainees visualize human structure and apply fundamental anatomical knowledge at all three levels of education: undergraduate, professional and post-graduate training. Participants can expect to leave this session with a clear understanding of how anatomists may leverage transdisciplinary collaboration in clinical learning environments.
