Graduate Teaching Assistant
The Pennsylvania State University
Megan F. Veltri is a PhD candidate working with Dr. Joan Richtsmeier and Dr. Tim Ryan in the Department of Anthropology at Penn State. She has a Master of Arts in Anthropology from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, and Penn State. Her research interests include the growth and development of the brain and skull, social race, human osteology, human anatomy, and osteoimmunology. More specifically, Megan is interested in how social race and social status influence stress, and how stress from social status alters immune regulation of bone development and disease in the skull. In collaboration with Drs. Melanie Haffner-Luntzer and Stefan Reber at the University of Ulm, Germany, Megan is researching the effects of immune dysregulation on the basioccipital, spheno-occipital synchondrosis, and basisphenoid bones in mice who were stressed via maternal stress and social instability. In addition, she is a graduate teaching assistant in Human Anatomy in the Department of Biology. In her free time, Megan enjoys cooking and having dinner with friends, rock climbing, and listening to music. If you are interested in osteoimmunology, skull and post-cranial development, or anatomy, please connect with her!
