I have been teaching Latin & Greek Language & Literature at the University of Saskatchewan since 1984. My interest in Medical Terminology (which I have been teaching continuously to pre-med and other students since 1987) began as a grad student at UBC. I taught the Classic Department's course there three times in the early 80's, and began developing what has since become a widely-used two-volume textbook, The Anatomy of Medical Terminology (revised, with Dr. Stephen Russell, 2018). Since 2020, my colleagues and I have been reaching out to medical professionals at conferences to showcase what we (as language experts) can offer, and to specify particular areas where the current terminology needs work which we think we can help with. So far, we have presented talks to IFFA (Istanbul, 2020), and ISCCA (Portugal, 2020 & Prague 2021). Our posters at AAA (Toronto 2024) are our first ventures into this new medium of communication. More traditionally, 3 of us are scheduled to present talks (and aposter) at ICAM (Vancouver, April 2024). In addition to our solo work, three of us recently joined lead author Dr. Paul Newman in publishing an article about the vocabulary of the Terminologia Histologica (Clinical Anatomy, volume 37, issue 3, pages 337-343).
