2LT Geovanny Reyes-Matute
I am a third-year medical student at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), interested in Internal Medicine and potential specialization in gastroenterology. With ten years of active duty in the US Army, initially as an Army Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for four years, I concurrently earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business/Marketing. Subsequently, I completed a Post-Bacc Pre-med program sponsored by the US Military and obtained a Master’s Degree in Biology. I am particularly interested in 3D printing, medical innovation, and device development. My goal is to contribute in closing the gap between medicine and engineering to help solve problems and to fulfill my commitment to our great nation.

With a decade of experience in the biotech industry, I have now pivoted towards a career that merges my technical expertise with a passion for healthcare, specifically within the military context. My foundation lies in clinical research and innovation, areas where I have developed significant expertise, particularly in surfactant sciences, high-density cell culture, filtration, and process automation. My contributions to these fields have been recognized nationally, culminating in several patents and presentations. Currently, as a third-year medical student at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), I am channeling this extensive background towards a focus in General Surgery. My goal is to leverage my unique blend of industry experience and medical education to enhance patient care in military settings, bringing an innovative and analytical approach to complex healthcare challenges.
