Director of Anatomy Teaching Programs
Rutgers New Jersey Medical School
Cranford, New Jersey, United States
Dr. George Holan started his career in academia at Kean University in 2015. As part of a four-person team, he created an inaugural Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program at Kean University. While creating numerous courses for the Kean DPT, he taught undergraduate-level anatomy and physiology. He served as the neurological clinical coordinator for the DPT program, designing and teaching clinical neuroscience and physical therapy management of the nervous system I + II. Once the DPT program started, he also served as its anatomy lead, which was taught in collaboration with Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. Under the mentorship of Drs. David DeFouw and Paolo Varricchio, he joined the Rutgers NJMS faculty after the DPT program was accredited in 2019. In 2020, he assumed the roles of course director for all Rutgers NJMS anatomy teaching programs and anatomy clinical lead at the medical school. He is currently responsible for directing all of the anatomy teaching across many different programs, including undergraduate medical education, undergraduate dental education, undergraduate physical therapy education, Masters-level graduate education, undergraduate outreach programs, and high-school outreach programs. Dr. Holan has won numerous awards for excellence in teaching at Rutgers NJMS and is interested in developing innovative ways to teach anatomy to a diversity of students.
