Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) dinosaurs, Toronto sidewalk earthworms, and at-home junior microscopes were my childhood gateways into science. Many decades after chewing off the tail-tip of my plastic toy brontosaurus (from the ROM gift shop, natch), my NSERC- and CFI-funded lab studies the coordinated evolution and development (evo-devo) of teeth within jaws. We >heart< primates the most, but have branched out to study rodents and fishes as we hunt for the genes (as well as cell and tissue processes) that tell vertebrate teeth and jaws how, where, and when to form. Being back in Toronto for Anatomy Connected is delightful. If you can, please come to my talk on gibbon tooth development (Sunday @4:30PM). And especially if you also >heart< primates and/or teeth and/or jaws (and/or dinosaurs!), please introduce yourself. it's always fantastic to make new science friends with AAA members!
