San Juan Bautista School of Medicine, Puerto Rico
I’m a second-year medical student at San Juan Bautista School of Medicine in Caguas, Puerto Rico. I was born and raised in Lima, Peru, for the first half of my life and emigrated to Florida, USA, to live for the second half. I have always been passionate about studying medicine and becoming a medical doctor. My favorite course during my undergraduate and post-graduate years was and continues to be anatomy. I find this subject fascinating because to know anatomy is to know oneself. I got interested in the surgical field right before entering medical school, the moment when I decided to pursue a career where I could be of service to patients with my knowledge and skill and, most importantly, to have the ability to provide them with a second chance. I’m currently dedicating my time to the pursuit of knowledge in research, focusing on the variation of the upper limb vasculature, specifically the persistent median artery, and its prevalence in the Puerto Rican population. By exploring and understanding these anomalies, we can refine surgical approaches and enhance patient care.
