Assistant Professor
University of New Mexico School of Medicine
Dr. Ethan C. Hill is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation in the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. He joined the faculty in 2020 to teach gross anatomy to students in the health professions after receiving his PhD in Anthropology from the University of New Mexico. As a biological anthropologist, Dr. Hill examines how the ways humans interact with and within their built environments influences bone metabolism. In particular, he is interested in how habitual physical activity affects bone strength and density. Dr. Hill is a part of the Virtual Early Life Stress in Pediatric Decedents project (VELS-Pediatrics), where he applies this research lens to bone health in children and adolescents who lived in New Mexico within the past decade. His recent work on this project focuses on how bone density and strength is negatively impacted by chronic inflammatory conditions (e.g. fatty liver disease, obesity), physical inactivity, and social determinants of health.
